Wedding Stationery Trends
We sent out our intrepid content and social media specialist Larissa Hirst to spy on the very latest wedding stationery trends that were on display at The National Wedding Show, where Printed.com were honoured to be the print partner of choice.
Looking towards winter weddings and into the new year, we discovered some beautiful stationery inspiration. From metallic bows and ribbons, to illustrative and calligraphic elements, there were plenty of trends on show. However, after much deliberation, we came up with our top four. Let us know your thoughts, as well as what other wedding stationery trends you think have been making the rounds.
Gold
Always believe in your soul. Spandeau Ballet have been raving about the quality of gold since 1983, and its popularity seems to be everlasting. Leighton Buzzard based stationer Kathryn Deeley showed off her golden glitter invites, while Bride & Groom Direct had tons of gold to gloat about, alongside metallic bows and ribbons. The Lancashire based stationer boasts more than 300 types of invitation designs alone.
Lucy from Eaton Stationery was on hand to explain gold’s everlasting quality as the perfect wedding stationery staple. She suggested rose gold is having a bit of an inaugural moment, and they’ve seen a rise in demand from clients for blush pink gold and champagne. Which is pretty exciting news if you shop at Printed.com, as we’ve got both gold and rose gold coloured foil ready and waiting to add to your Wedding Stationery!
Gold has all the right qualities of being a great choice as a wedding stationery theme. Invoking compassion, composure and warmth, Pearl Oyster or Pearl Polar paper stocks offer a rosy tint or champagne glisten to your invites. Gold can also be subtly added into your stationery set with envelopes. You can get your hands on conqueror gold business cards if you love for a bit of refinement goes one step further and you want to use the shade for business purposes.
Neutral
Kraft paper was a big hitter among the stationers at The National Wedding Show. Colour schemes seemed to be out, and classic creams, biscuits and monochrome were back – or did they ever go away? Bride & Groom Direct were keen to tell us their designer was male, and this probably explains why their range has the perfect mix for both bride and groom, pretty and practical. Pretty Things By Dee struck the right balance too with feminine meets masculine with her cream, camel and black laser-cut stationery sets, and Aimee Willow Designs, both London based, kept her whimsical illustrations paired down with a neutral colour palette.
While simplicity was definitely key in many stationers’ colour choices, Origami Fox took intricate, detailed stationery and made it frankly, so damn cool. We loved her interpretation of neutral, which meant still choosing a strong colour without gender connotations, and adding Kraft paper stocks to let that one colour do the talking.
With earthy, latte-coloured Kraft paper, make your designs automatically more vintage and authentic with our wedding collection Kraft paper options, and accessorise with simple cream twine.
Rustic
In similar realms to neutral, rustic charm was everywhere for the winter wedding season. Homely elements and botanical touches took the neutral tone to another level and implemented a rural and almost countryside look across many stationery wedding sets. Bride & Groom Direct showed off their creative credentials with a post office telegram harking back to simpler times, and Aimee Willow Designs adorned her work with floral and leafy wreaths, perfect for winter weddings.
Touches of twine, buttons, stamps and calligraphy (Lucy from Eaton Stationery mentioned this as a big trend) finish off the ‘a little bit rough round the edges look’. People want their stationery to look handmade and personable, and rustic reaps this. Kathryn Deeley even used cork and wood in her latest collection for a real homely vibe!
Save the dates on creamy Acquerello paper gives an old-world look that loves retro artwork and lends itself towards a bit of rustic charm.
Bespoke & Personalised
This one never goes out of fashion. It seems however, as if it’s gone one step further recently, with stationers such as Kathryn Deeley showcasing puzzle pieces and tea towels with bespoke wedding elements. These will become treasured mementos of the special day and we salute Kathryn for being on top of every single trend we picked up on!
Tailored Occasions create a fusion of traditional and modern stationery, and their example of table plans demonstrates how fun yet simple personalisation can be. Roshni and Jai Tailor offer a mountain of wedding goods, including favours, crafts and accessories, as well as their stationery sets.
Anna Muckart of Origami Fox travelled all the way from her studio on the Scottish Border to display her range, including a table plan specified as the night sky. Every single one of those constellations is accurate, which is so impressive to think how much time and energy went into this one piece of stunning work.
